What is an Area Travel Plan?
An
Area Travel Plan (ATP) aims to improve
travelling to a specific area. The development
and implementation of an Area Travel
Plan involves partnership working between
all parties with an interest in travel
in the area, such as the local (highway)
authorities, businesses and individuals.
Steps for
developing an Area Travel Plan:
Step
1 – Understand
Existing Travel Patterns and Options
The
first step of the development of an Area
Travel Plan is to understand the existing
transport conditions of the area and
travel patterns of employees. Therefore
we need to have information about the
way you travel to work. Every year a
staff travel survey is being held in
October. You can help improve your journey
to work by completing the survey form.
Step 2 – Identify
Appropriate Measures to Improve Travel
The
next step is to identify the most appropriate
measures tailored to the needs of people
travelling to the Science Park. Consultation
with the partners secures support of
proposed sustainable measures.
Step
3 – Implement
the Measures
The third step
is the implementation of the Area Travel
Plan’s measures.
These measures could include the introduction
of an area-wide car-share scheme, improved
bus and cycle links to the rail station
and on-site cycle facilities.
Step 4 – Monitor
and Assess
The development of
the Area Travel Plan is an ongoing process.
The measures will be monitored to ensure
that the best travel options are available
to the most people.
