Benefits to Individuals
Changing
the way you travel to work could benefit
you in more ways than you expect. Getting
out of your car and walking, cycling,
or using public transport or alternatively
sharing your car, could save you money
and time, as well as improving your quality
of life.
Money
Sharing your car journey halves your petrol
and running costs, and walking and cycling can be
very cheap, and can also save you money on gym membership!
Not being able to find a suitable match
for car sharing is often a problem. An
Area Travel Plan’s car-share
scheme will help you identify whether there
is someone making a similar journey as
you, with whom you could share.
Time
Congestion on the A14 and at the
Milton Road junction currently causes delays
for Cambridge Science Park employees on
their journey to work. The Area Travel
Plan (ATP) aims to reduce congestion by
introducing measures tailored to meet the
needs of the employees.
ATP initiatives
may include the introduction of bus shuttle
services to the rail station and bus
lanes to reduce bus journey times.
If
you live close to the Cambridge Science
Park you may find that it is actually quicker
to walk or cycle to work than to use your
car as you do not end up sitting in traffic
jams.
Health and Fitness
Walking and cycling are excellent
forms of exercise that can help you to
stay fit and healthy.
